Founded at the end of 2018, cytena Bioprocess Solutions Co., Ltd. is the only Asian subsidiary invested in by the Swedish-listed biotechnology group BICO. The company focuses on providing process optimization solutions for pharmaceutical companies and research institutions engaged in cell line development abroad.
Since cell culture is a complex, labor-intensive, and time-consuming process, cytena aims to revolutionize traditional early-stage static culture by introducing innovative technologies. Our customer-oriented approach drives us to create significant growth and advantages for the future of drug development and Taiwan’s biotechnology industry — ultimately helping patients receive faster and more effective treatments.
Currently, cytena Bioprocess Solutions is the only company within the BICO Group in Asia that has its own R&D team. Our goal is to develop more products and become the group’s R&D center in Asia.
In the next phase, cytena will integrate its existing microfluidic technology, automation systems, and big data analytics to provide a high-throughput cell culture monitoring platform for biopharmaceutical companies and research institutions. This includes integrating real-time bioreactor monitoring of parameters such as pH and DO (dissolved oxygen) and replacing manual media exchange with automated robotic functions. The latest product from cytena Bioprocess Solutions, S.NEST™ Micro Bioreactor, is a high-throughput micro-scale reaction system equipped with an integrated monitoring system. It is designed to maximize cell growth while significantly shortening workflow and experiment time. While optimizing cell growth, S.NEST™ also enables advanced data analysis, converting collected information into meaningful insights that accelerate research progress.

Through its patented mixing technology, S.NEST™ allows cells to grow in a suspended culture environment with optimal spatial distribution and oxygen supply. This innovation replaces the conventional process that traditionally requires several weeks for cell amplification and scaling-up.
Additionally, each bioreactor chamber has an individually controlled environment and can accommodate four plates compatible with either 96-well or 24-well formats — enabling up to 384 simultaneous samples in a truly high-throughput setting.
Its built-in camera module provides real-time monitoring of pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, allowing researchers to easily track data trends via software. This simple yet effective system enhances laboratory research efficiency, reduces redundant experiments, and maximizes researcher productivity.
